Biomedical Equipment I

Course Description

This course introduce the therapeutic & prosthetic devices like:  Defibrillators, Pacemakers, Electrical Surgical Unit, Ventilators, incubators, Artificial kidneys - Endoscopy - Laser devices - Anesthesia equipment, Pulse Oximeter, Patient Monitor, Phototherapy,Infusion Pump

Course Goals

  • Understand each instrument theory, background and principle of operation.
  • Describe the concept of the Electrical Safety Analyzers for each equipments, The international safety standards like AAMI, ANSI, IEC.
  • Describe the organization of the  Computerized Maintenance Management System in planed preventive maintenance.
  • Simulate human biomedical signal to test the reliability of the biomedical equipment.

Course Skills

At the end of this course the students could:
 (1)
Understand each instrument theory, background and principle of operation.
(2) Perform the Electrical Safety Analyzers for each equipments.
(3) Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System in planed preventive maintenance.

Grading Policy

Term Exam:  50 points  
Midterm Exam: 15 Points 
Lab: 20 Points
Class Project: 20 Points
Other (Homework assignments, quizzes, etc.): 10 points
Grade will be the summation of all of the above weighted by your attendance percentage. Failing to attend at least 80% of the classes will result in a failing grade in this class.
